Beni Ourain rugs have been featured in countless blog articles, interior design magazine, and even used as set props for J. Crew in years past. Sure all that attention might make them a trend, but considering that some of the real deals date back to 1920, I'd say they have some serious staying power.

While Beni Ourain might sound like some designer with exquisite style, it is actually the name of the collective 17 Berber tribes in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, where rugs are bountiful.
The rugs produced by these tribes are easily recognizable - they almost always have an ivory background, shaggy pile and abstract geometric patterns in either brown or black. Basically, they are old, awesome and far from cheap - which pretty much describes everything I usually end up wanting.

Since I am not the type to sit around and covet - I found a much more affordable solution for the void of a Beni Ourain rug in my life....
West Elm. While they are not the only ones offering Beni Ourain style rugs, they are the closest in comparison and the quality seems to be the best. You can also find a few other imitations, but read any reviews provided. Sometimes you pay for what you get.
